Copywriters live and die by the words they craft. But as any seasoned copywriter knows, there’s more to it than that. Copywriting is equal parts strategy and storytelling, ideating and translating, researching and (yes) writing. With this in mind, Artemis Ward copywriters play an integral role in our creative process, contributing from initial briefs to final deliverables, always eager to roll up their sleeves to craft the concepts, campaigns, messaging, and interactive experiences that keep our clients — and their audiences — coming back for more.

As a copywriter, you’ll bring a trained eye — and pen — as you work across an array of media and channels, including client presentations, social and digital properties, cross-platform campaigns, video, and more. While you’ll approach every sentence with attention to brand voice, lyrical cadence, and grammatical perfection, you’ll measure the success of your work against the strategy it supports and the impact it makes. You’ll rely on discipline, rigor, and curiosity to not only push your ideas forward, but to inspire your colleagues to stretch, too. And you’ll be eager to receive feedback as well as deliver it, so that the content we create matches the ambitions we chase. In this role, you’ll report to the creative director/writing.

This is an in-person role in either Washington, D.C. or Denver, Colorado.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or support the development of creative concepts, messages, and experiences in a cross-disciplinary setting

  • Write copy across the full gamut of media and channels, short-form and long-form

  • Produce impactful writing driven by research, strategy, and an understanding of clients’ needs

  • Adapt writing style to the brand voice, tone, and personality of each client

  • Focus on key client accounts as well as Artemis Ward marketing and new business efforts

  • Contribute to content strategy, campaign strategy, and brand strategy

  • Advocate for your ideas and communicate/translate winning concepts to colleagues and clients

  • Stay plugged in to best practices and emerging trends in writing, storytelling, and brand experience

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills

  • Meet project timelines and deliverables in a fast-moving environment

  • Apply strategic knowledge of digital, social, cultural, and business landscapes to all efforts

  • Be fun, humble, and passionate with a healthy dose of hustle

Must Haves

  • 2–4 years writing experience (ideally in an agency setting or client-side)

  • Demonstrated writing chops across industries, media, and channels, including emerging social platforms

  • Aptitude to think strategically and conceptually

  • Appetite for multidisciplinary collaboration

  • Unwavering attention to detail

  • Proactive mindset

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • High drive and serious pride in your work

Nice to Haves

  • Proven understanding of content strategy

  • Ability to proof edit and copyedit with precision and rigor

  • Experience collecting and analyzing analytics and measurements

  • Eagerness to participant in client pitches/presentations

  • A well-worn copy of The Elements of Style
