Target Start Date: January 10, 2022

Compensation: $24,000 USD for six months, assumes 20-25 hours per week. Possibility to convert to full-time role or longer contract after the initial period.

Global Press Journal is looking for an experienced, collaborative photo editor to work with our team of reporters around the world. Photo editors review and edit photos and captions and partner with reporters to tell stories through photography. The photo editor will offer feedback and coaching on stories in progress, assigning photo deadlines as needed. 


  • Collaborate with reporters on developing strong visual plans for stories 

  • Offer coaching on pitches and stories, assigning photo deadlines as needed

  • Work with story editors to select photos to run with stories published on

  • Edit photos published on any Global Press platform

  • Curate special photo galleries and slideshows

  • Assist in implementing metadata policies so all files are consistent and searchable in the data asset management software 

  • Ensure all photos meet the standards needed to syndicate

  • Prepare and host bimonthly photo country team meetings 

  • Assist reporters with technical and equipment challenges by providing coaching and/or helping them secure diagnostic opportunities and solutions 


  • At least five years experience in newsroom photo editing

  • Writing expertise in grammar, syntax and AP Style

  • Advanced proficiency in photograph editing software, specifically Lightroom and Photo Mechanic

  • Experience organizing and maintaining a photo archive and using a DAM

  • Desire to collaborate with team members around the world

  • International experience and knowledge of multiple languages a plus
